FAQs

Why face shields and PAPR visors?

We're talking directly with hospital supply chain managers to understand their needs. This is one of the most immediate needs we can fulfill.

Are these FDA-cleared medical devices?

No. The products are not intended for use as and have not been approved for use as medical devices or to replace medical devices. They do not and are not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, alleviate or prevent any disease or health condition. HFDC, Inc. has not been registered with the FDA as a medical device manufacturer. These products are being produced for healthcare provider use under the CDC’s crisis capacity strategy guidelines.

Please see our legal page for more information.

Who’s the team?

We're a handful of engineers, doctors, and designers who all know each other from studying at Stanford together and from work in the Bay Area at companies like Apple and Nest (and the Stanford Hospital). We grouped up to try to help hospitals in a surge capacity.

Why are you doing this?

Through personal connections at hospitals, we learned they're unable to get supplies fast enough from their normal suppliers. Using what we've learned making other commercial products, we started to work to get them stuff faster.

Are you a not-for-profit?

Yes, we're registered as a non-profit in Massachusetts. We don't currently have 501(c)(3) status with the IRS (it takes months, unfortunately) so donations are not tax-deductible at this time. We're actively exploring partnering with a fiscal sponsor to address this.

What’s your progress?
